After the latest men's golf championship success, England Golf is pressing the government to underwrite their proposal to stage the Solheim Cup in the country for the very first occasion.

This elite tournament between the top female golfers of Europe and the United States has been held on two occasions in Scotland and in Wales yet never in England. An official proposal has been prepared to hold it at the Grove venue within Hertfordshire in 2030.

But planners are seeking £30m to back this proposal and currently only £10m has been secured. The organizing body is requesting public backing to cover the remaining amount.
