Nashville Emergency Services said it employed multiple ladders and a rescue mechanism to save the student

The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the fatality of a skydiving instructor following he became separated from his student during a jump in Nashville, Tennessee.

Police say trainer Justin Fuller "is presumed to have fallen from the sky without a safety chute" during the dive on Saturday.

The instructor, 35, seems to have separated from his client and a dual harness, which connects the two during a jump and contains the parachute.

A police helicopter found the instructor's remains in a forested zone hours later. The Nashville Fire Department utilized multiple pieces of equipment to reach the 46-year old client who survived the descent after being stuck on a tree branch for some time with the backup chute.

Police said several additional jumps, which took place near a local airport, were successfully completed before the deadly incident. The plane from which they jumped also landed safely.

The cause remains unknown how the instructor, an seasoned parachutist, became separated from the protective gear.

A individual who helped fire crews in the rescue told a media outlet the student who authorities rescued said "it was his first jump, and it was going to be his final one".

Mr Fuller had recently written about his enthusiasm for teaching others how to parachute.

"Teaching people to skydive has consistently been in my opinion the most rewarding job at the jump site," the instructor said in an Instagram post in June.

"Watching them figure it out and start flying their selves is always a touching experience. Occasionally though, it can get a little hectic up there when you let someone go for their initial attempt."

During that period he shared photos of the damage a jump aircraft he was on saying the aircraft's motor had malfunctioned after take off. All 20 people aboard survived.
